Puhl & Associates, PC is a certified public accounting firm licensed by the State of Iowa. Our firm was established in 1990 and we currently serve over 200 clients in Northwest Iowa. Our firm has successfully completed three American Institute of CPA accounting quality reviews performed by the Iowa Society of CPAs. We are an authorized electronic filer of tax returns to the IRS and the States of Iowa and Nebraska. We tailor our services specifically to help business owners add real value to their businesses and enrich their personal lives. All of our CPAs are licensed by the State of Iowa and are members of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and Iowa Society of CPAs. President - Nick R. Puhl, CPA nick@puhlcpa.com
Nick Puhl has been president of Puhl & Associates, PC since 1990. He grew up on a cattle and grain farm by Struble, Iowa. He graduated from Gehlen Catholic High School in Le Mars in 1975. He graduated Summa Cum Laude from Briar Cliff College (Sioux City, Iowa) in 1979 with an accounting major and a business administration minor. He passed the national Uniform CPA examination in 1980 and obtained his State of Iowa Board of Accountancy Permit to Practice license in 1981. After college, he worked for Williams & Company CPAs in their Sioux City, Le Mars and Orange City offices for over 7 years. He gained experience in accounting, auditing and tax areas. In 1986, he returned to the Struble farm to work with his parents and brother. He also began his own CPA practice, part-time, in Le Mars that same year. Nick has over 28 years' experience serving a wide range of clients in Northwest Iowa with tax, auditing, accounting, computer and business development services to solve their problems and help them pursue business opportunities. He has been active in the local community with various leadership roles in his church, Briar Cliff accounting alumni, Le Mars Sertoma service club and Friends of the Le Mars Public Library. He is a past president of the Gehlen Catholic Schools Board of Education and helped found the Gehlen Catholic Schools Endowment Fund.
Vice-President - Debra M. Puhl, CPA deb@puhlcpa.com
Debra Puhl has been vice-president of Puhl & Associates, PC since 1990. The former Debra Kloewer, she grew up in Panama in southwest Iowa and graduated from Harlan High School in 1975. She graduated Summa Cum Laude from Morningside College (Sioux City, Iowa) in 1979. Deb passed the CPA examination in 1980, and obtained her State of Iowa Board of Accountancy Permit to Practice license in 1983. Deb worked at Nichols, Rise & Company, CPAs in Sioux City and South Sioux City after graduation from college. She was an accountant for a construction company and 3 auto dealerships in Le Mars before she and her husband Nick started Puhl & Associates in 1990. She also taught income tax accounting part-time at the former Westmar College in Le Mars. Deb has 28 years of experience helping small businesses with their tax, accounting, computer and business development needs and opportunities. Deb and Nick have 4 children. She is involved in her parish Liturgy Committee, Altar Rosary Society and other activities at St. Joseph's Church in Struble, and is treasurer of the Gehlen Catholic Schools Fine Arts Boosters. In her spare time, she enjoys bicycling, and has ridden a part of RAGBRAI for several years. In 2006, Deb rode the entire week of RAGBRAI. Director of First Impressions - Annette M. Kuiken annette@puhlcpa.com
Annette Kuiken has been the Director of First Impressions at Puhl & Associates, PC since September 13, 2000. The former Annette Kommes was born in Audubon, IA and lived in Exira until she was 5, at which time her family moved to Le Mars. She graduated from Le Mars Community High School in 1982. She graduated with honors from the Clerical Bookkeeping program at Western Iowa Tech Community College in 1983. Annette was a daycare provider for 15 years, an aide at Le Mars Community for 1 year in the pre-school special education room and was a bookkeeper for a convenience store for 1 year before joining the Puhl & Associates team. Annette married Rob Kuiken in 1983 and they have 4 children. She serves as the parish bookkeeper for 4 rural Catholic churches around Le Mars. Other church activities include: finance committee chairperson, Altar Rosary Society member and serving on the Parish Council. Annette is currently the treasurer of the Le Mars Athletic Boosters, a Le Mars Little League Board Member and is a 4-H leader for the Grant Clever Clovers 4-H Club. She has also worked part-time at Timmy's Catering for the past 9 years. Annette enjoys attending her children's many activities and coaching softball in her spare time.
